Scuba gear
Because scuba gear can be expensive, it is important to
make sure that it is well maintained. Salt is one substance that does
a lot to ruin and break down scuba gear. When this happens, a person
is forced to buy new equipment. But as long as a person does at least
a little to maintain his gear, he can avoid a lot of problems.
Some of the ways a person can maintain scuba gear include:
• Rinse – After a dive, doing something as simple as rinsing
out the wetsuit and other scuba gear can reduce the amount of damage
done to the equipment. Because the salt can contaminate, the risk of
contamination is greatly reduced when there is no salt.
• Remove dirt – Just as salt can cause problems, so can
dirt. Wiping off any dirt or debris from the gear with a towel can do
a lot to reduce the possibility of something damaging the scuba gear.
• Dry it – Scuba gear is easiest to dry if it is laid flat,
preferably under the sun or some other heat source. Do not pack up the
items until they are dry enough that mold will not build up on them.
• Store it – Scuba gear should be stored in a cool, dry
place. Keeping it in a place like this will keep it from being damaged
by too much heat. If the gear is stored under extreme heat, damp conditions
or direct light, the possibility of damage being done to the scuba gear
greatly increases.
